At approximately 9:25pm on september 07, 2025. A third party notification contacted running horse pipeline (rhp) supervisor, edison tapaha. He reported a crude oil smell coming from our montezuma creek station. Rhp pipeline controller, broderick lee, notified rhp operator, pierce benally jr., to investigate the smell at the station. At approximately, 9:59pm on september 07, 2025, pierce benally jr. Confirmed crude oil spill by the sump pump and notified broderick lee to shut down the pipeline. Pipeline was shutdown approximately around 10:12pm. The pipeline station was shutdown due to oil spill sump overflow. Rhp used local contractors for swift response and start of cleanup started approximately 11:10pm, september 07,2025. Approximately 30 barrels spilled around the sump and a vacuum truck was used to pick up approximately 25 barrels. The accident was result of equipment failure, proving loop pressure relief valve failed to open.
