Narrative
On 8/14/25 at 10 am a contractor with heartland midwest was installing a new fiber conduit for att crossing magellan pipelines. While working the encroachment the oneok operator could smell an odor while excavation took place for the new fiber. Upon further investigation through probing and air monitoring the operator confirmed product contamination in the soil. The operator notified his supervisor of the situation. Once notification was made, the supervisor initiated a shutdown of the pipeline and dispatched additional operators to the area to help with the investigation. A review of ili data for the pipelines in the area identified an anomaly under the road on the #5-12in kansas city barnsdall line segment. Once the road was cut and area excavated it was confirmed a linear indication in the long- seam weld was the source of the leak. This anomaly was initially repaired with a 4 type b sleeve. Work then began the next day to replace the existing joint with new pipe. All work was completed, and the pipeline was returned to service on sunday 8/17/25. The removed pipe segment was sent for metallurgical analysis. A supplemental report will be filed following the results of the analysis.
