Narrative
On 08/05/2025 at 11:40, a leak was discovered on the 12-inch bypass line at bretch station. The pipeline technician shut-in section of line upon discovery. The line was exposed and the leak was coming from a pinhole leak at the 6 o'clock position. The pipe shows no anomalies or signs of external corrosion. Approximately 0.75 barrels (32 gallons) of crude oil was released. Local employees cleaned up product and remediated impacted soil. The leak was repaired with a plidco mechanical clamp and the line was restarted at 14:00. The failed pipe will be cutout and sent to a third-party lab for analysis. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. A supplemental report will be submitted once complete. Supplemental & final: the investigation determined that the failure was due to internal corrosion. The cause of the internal corrosion was microbiologically induced corrosion (mic) and under-deposit corrosion. To prevent reoccurrence, operations will install water trap and corrosion coupon at lowest accessible location, and determine appropriate biocide and dosage for treatment of the line. Additionally, evaluate flushing volume to ensure turbulence is sufficient to remove deposits.
