On july 2, 2025, tallgrass personnel observed crude oil on the ground during a station walkthrough and a call was made to the tallgrass operations control center (occ) to isolate the facility from the mainline and to initiate the internal emergency response procedures. The source of the release was not observed on any of the aboveground piping. Steps were taken to prevent the migration of crude oil offsite, the osro was contacted, and an emergency one call was placed in preparation for excavation to determine the source of the release. Excavation began after the osro arrived onsite. The source of the release was found to be on the underground 2� drain line on station discharge piping. The affected part was cut out and was sent for analysis. The cutout was replaced before newkirk station was started back up. Tallgrass is currently waiting for results from analysis on the cut-out to determine the apparent cause. The supplemental-final report will have the apparent cause and updated costs.
