Narrative
On june 27, 2025, at 1:17 am cdt, enbridge on-call technician was contacted by the edmonton control center regarding a leak alarm on the line 67 densitometer cabinet at deer river station. The technician arrived on site at 2:00 am cdt and discovered approximately 14 gallons of crude oil had been released and contained within the cabinet, with no product released to the ground below. The automatic valves associated with the cabinet had isolated the leak source in response to the alarms, and the technician further isolated the cabinet by manually closing additional valves. The manager on-call was notified, and initial cleanup was started and then completed later in the morning. The source of the release was identified as a seal on the densitometer pump. Further investigation determined the cause to be due to normal wear and tear from time in service. Density readings at this location are no longer used by the control center for operational purposes, and pump remains isolated from the system while a determination is made on whether a repair is warranted.
