Narrative
On june 24, 2025, mplx operations personnel arrived at conan station and observed evidence of a crude oil leak originating from below ground. The leak was located in the vicinity of the enterprise 20 outgoing line and an adjacent 10 relief line. In response, the operator initiated an emergency shutdown (esd) of the station and immediately notified the control room and the operations manager. Both lines were isolated to determine the source of the leak. After confirming the leaking line, inlet flows to the station were returned to service. The enterprise 20 outgoing line was then disconnected and blinded. The station was subsequently brought back online. An estimated volume of approximately 10 barrels (bbls) of crude oil was released. All released product remained contained on mplx property with no off-site impact. Investigation findings: the investigation concluded that the failure was caused by internal corrosion due to microbiological activity, likely exacerbated by the lines low flow rates. Path forward: abandon the affected line. retie the line to alternate headers to increase flow frequency. replace the line, as necessary, to ensure continued safe operation.
