Narrative
At approximately 1515 on may 21, 2025, a 2nd party contractor reported product coming out of the roof drains of a nearby tank. Upon investigation, it was found that product had come from the roof drain of tank 150-53. The investigation determined that the release was due to a damaged roof seal from a third-party pipeline pigging operation. During the pigging process, nitrogen unintentionally bypassed the pig and entered the tank. The rapid expansion of nitrogen within the tank damaged the primary and secondary seals, allowing product to accumulate on the external floating roof and flow through the roof drain. All product and affected soil were recovered. The area was foamed to suppress vapors, and the product was removed from the tank.
