Narrative
At approximately 21:00 on 11/01/2025, williams station b plant initiated an esd due to a faulted processor on the safety plc. Due to mainline pressure venting for approximately 56 minutes, prior to technicians arriving on-site and manually closing valves, the result was a release of 3924 mcf of natural gas meeting regulatory reporting criteria. The esd system did not function as intended. It took one hour for technicians to reset the faulted safety plc and make station available to gas control. Preliminary indications were a battery charger failed. Further investigation concluded the primary cause of the esd was the fault on the safety plc processor. A contributing factor was both the suction and discharge valve power gas pilot valves were in the closed position not allowing the valves to close. No emergency responders were involved. No customers were affected. The arizona corporation commission made an announced visit to flagstaff area office and williams station on 11/3/2025 to investigate the event.
