Narrative
The amount of carbon dioxide released was determined to be approximately 4500 kilograms. The pipeline was shut off and repaired, the release was secured. At approximately 1000 on april 24th, 2025, a nearby operator from contango reported to the exxonmobil pipeline team that CO2 was venting form the exxonmobil bairoil vent stack just outside the bairoil metering station building. The local pipeline team was deployed to investigate the unintentional CO2 venting. An initial report was made to the nrc reporting the release at 1045 on april 24th, 2025. The exxonmobil pipeline team arrived at the bairoil metering station and isolated the leaking psv no 3131, at approximately 1320 on april 24th, 2025. The exxonmobil contractor psv team spartan arrived and tested the psv, no obvious failures were identified so the psv was pulled, rebuilt, and put back into service on april 24th, 2025. The cause of the incident was due to a premature psv failure. Psv are tested and/or rebuilt on an annual basis as part of the maintenance program.
