On september 10, 2025, at approximately 08:49, a consumers energy employee investigating a potential leak indication confirmed the presence of a leak on line 2600 near the johnson road valve site. Line 2600 is a 12-inch natural gas transmission pipeline located in lake city, michigan (missaukee county). Consumers energy promptly initiated an isolation procedure to further assess the situation. The affected section of line 2600 was successfully isolated and vented to 0 psig by approximately 16:46 the same day. Following excavation, the leak was discovered on a 12-inch ball valve (valve 2622). The valve was preserved in accordance with consumers energy�s failure investigation procedures and transported to the company�s laboratory for analysis. The incident response and remediation efforts were conducted without injury to the public or operating personnel. Remediation activities commenced on september 10, 2025. The scope of work included replacement of the 12-inch ball valve and approximately 9-feet of pipeline. The pipeline segment was returned to service on september 23, 2025. Further analysis of the failed valve is ongoing to determine the root cause of the failure.
