Narrative
On july 3, 2025, at 16:24 mdt, northern border's gas control (gc) received an alarm at monchy meter station and at 16:36 mdt, gc received a call from a customer about a pressure drop on their compressor station that may have impacted monchy meter station. At 18:38 mdt, a second call was received from the customer asking for a technician on our side to investigate a relief valve at monchy meter station. Gc dispatched a technician to investigate a potential release at 18:45 mdt. Upon arriving on site at 21:17 mdt, the technician discovered natural gas was being released to the atmosphere through an eight-inch relief valve. Immediate action was taken to isolate the valve, which ended the release at 21:20 mdt. The unintentional gas loss was calculated to be approximately 217,850.1 mcf. There were no damages, injuries or hospitalizations. The investigation into the cause of the valve failure is still on-going. The relief valve is currently isolated and there is a secondary relief valve at the monchy meter station that is providing overpressure protection to the pipeline system.
