Narrative
On may 14, 2025, at approximately 9:30 a.M. Ct, a leak was discovered during an integrity dig on bate-leba line 1. While daylighting the pipeline for the anomaly investigation, slight bubbling was observed at a location unrelated to the target anomaly. The leak was identified at a vintage construction bleeder valve (approx. 1-2 diameter) located approximately six feet from the target anomaly. The feature is a 1014 diameter metallic can, approximately 812 in height, tack welded to the top of the pipeline to protect the bleeder valve. Ili tool logs confirm the presence of a tap at this location and orientation. Upon confirmation of the leak, the ditch was immediately evacuated. In accordance with enbridge sop, an immediate pressure restriction to 80% of pressure at time of discovery was implemented. During a stakeholder call held at 7:15 p.M. Ct the same day, it was determined that the repair costs could exceed the reporting threshold. Following assessment by pipeline integrity, a decision was made to proceed with an in-service containment sleeve repair. Due to safety concerns, the metallic can was not removed to identify the exact leak source. All repair activities were completed, and pressure tested, and the line was safely returned to normal operating pressures on may 30, 2025.
