Narrative
At the tescott compressor station on 5/2/2025 at 23:51 hrs, an 8-inch esd valve opened causing a release of 37.523 mmscf of natural gas. Initial pressure at the time of release was 820 psig going to the e-line. A bird had built a nest in the esd valve control box and perched on the control trip handle, causing it to release. The nearby landowner reported releasing gas to the field team at 00:19 hrs. Members of the field team closed the valve at 02:10 hours and cleared out the bird nest. The valve control box was locked at the time of the incident, and it appears that the bird had entered the box through one of the holes on the back of the box. The box's design has multiple holes on the back and sides. An occ call was initiated at 03:42 hrs when the team determined that it could be a reportable condition which facility planning confirmed. The determination was made at 04:05 hrs and a call was made to the nrc at 04:13 hrs (ticket number 1430071). No injuries, no evacuations, and no property damage. Nearest house was 1.42 miles away.
