Narrative
Following completion of gas main relocation work on fort shafter army base, the hawaii gas employee was removing propane air hose assembly from the bypass tee on the service riser for clubhouse building 711 when gas in the area ignited. Immediately following the incident, the employee called additional hawaii gas personnel for assistance with extinguishing the fire and moving the equipment and vehicles out of the area. During the initial ignition, the hawaii gas employee suffered 2nd degree burns to the right side of his head and neck. Federal emergency services arrived on scene and treated the employee and transported him to straub hospital where he was hospitalized overnight in the burn unit.
