Narrative
At approximately 9:41am south jersey gas (sjg) dispatch received a call advising of a struck gas facility. Sjg dispatched a first responder immediately. Sjg first responder arrived at 10:03am. He found a third-party construction crew had struck a gas facility causing a fire. The fire ignited the contractor's backhoe and dump truck. Sjg street crews were dispatched to isolate the system and make safe. A controlled outage was be caused by the isolation of the damage. A sequence of valve closures and squeeze off's were completed and flow was stopped and made safe at 12:07pm. There is currently an active investigation that is ongoing. Cost of damage to excavator, dump truck and and siding damage to the home are estimates. Claim has not been submitted to sjg for any of these as the investigation is ongoing.
