Narrative
On july 21, 2025, at 3:56pm, centerpoint energy was notified of a housefire at 1901 chilton dr., baytown, tx. When the responding technician arrived on site at 4:20pm, it was confirmed that the gas had been turned off by the responding baytown fire department at the service riser. The technician was not allowed to access the property due to an ongoing investigation by the baytown police department. At 4:55pm it was reported to the service technician that there was a confirmed fatality inside of the house. Centerpoint was allowed access to the residential meter and set. It was determined that the gas meter was struck and broken by an outside force. The cause of the fire is still pending and under investigation by fire marshal and local authorities. There is an ongoing criminal investigation with an arrest at this time. According to news reports, a man is accused of starting the fire and leaving his father who could not walk inside the house. Once the cause of the fire is confirmed by authorities, we will submit a supplemental report or retract the original notification if the cause is confirmed to be intentional.
