Narrative
On monday, july 14, 2025, pse&g was notified of a house explosion at 643 parkview avenue, north plainfield that occurred at approximately 23:54 hrs. The local fire department was able to extinguish the fire on 7/15/2025 at 00:07 hrs. A pse&g technician was on site at 00:15 hrs. Gas to the home was shut off at the curb at approximately 01:00 hrs followed by an additional 7 homes having gas shut off at the curb for precautionary reasons at 02:05 hrs. At the time of this incident the area was experiencing severe flooding and residents in that area had already been evacuated earlier that day. Water levels observed completely submerged basements in that area, and reached as high as 4 feet of the first floor at 643 parkview ave. A leak investigation consisting of a walking survey and a leak mobile survey was conducted with 0% open air readings. A pressure test of the service up to the head of service valve located on the interior of the front basement wall was conducted with no detected leaks. Inside the home, damage was found on the 0.75� jurisdictional piping directly below the regulator, as well as at the junction of jurisdictional and non-jurisdictional piping. At this time, due to the extent of flooding and subsequent damage, we are not able to determine the initial source of the gas leak inside of the building that led to the explosion, additionally, the damage to pse&g owned facilities may have been as a result of the explosion. Therefore, the apparent cause of this incident is still under investigation.
