Narrative
On june 21 at approximately 17:53 eastern time, a medium sized suv crossed over a dead end street, across a curb and lawn and made full contact with a 5m meter. The impact ripped the meter from its riser piping causing a break in the riser elbow. The vehicle proceeded through the brick wall into the building the meter was servicing. The blowing gas and running motor vehicle created an ignition which began a fire to the vehicle and building. The local fire department was first on scene and able to access the shut off valve on the riser to stop the gas flow. The fire was then extinguished by the fire department. It was then discovered that the driver was deceased. Nipsco made the decision to shut off the service at the curb valve as an additional safety measure. Cause of death is unknown.
