Narrative
On 5/31/2025, the cps energy system operator received calls from the san antonio fire department indicating a structure fire. The address provided to cpe energy was 7902 laurel bend. At approximately 9:56 p.M., a gas fire order was created, and cps energy dispatched a gas troublemen (c/k/a a gas technician) to the scene. The gas troubleman arrived at approximately 10:35 p.M. And found the structure at 7914 laurel bend to have been damaged in an explosion and fire. The gas troubleman, acting as a first responder, began making the scene safe, evacuating the residents of laurel bend, and ensuring cps energy gas and electric service meters were shut off for the subject property and the surrounding. Homes including 7926, 7922, 7918, and 7910 laurel bend. He then began bar hole testing near 7914 laurel bend. Upon seeing positive reads, he contacted his foreman and relayed that there had been an incident possibly involving natural gas. The foreman contacted the cps energy manager of gas services and headed to the scene to assist the troubleman. The manager arrived at approximately 11:45 p.M. And, after consulting with the troubleman, the foreman, and fire crews, determined that natural gas may have been involved in the explosion. Accordingly, the manager called in additional personnel, notified the director of gas construction and the vice president of gas solutions, and contacted the railroad commission at approximately 12:05 a.M. On 6/1/2025. The cps energy crew at the scene, which was comprised of various crafts and specialties, including a leak crew, continued bar hole testing and performing other analyses of cps energy equipment and facilities throughout the night. Additional resources were called as appropriate and as needed to assist the crew and the displaced residents of laurel bend. A representative of the railroad commission arrived on scene at approximately 8:45 a.M. Cps energy found a leak at the butt fuse to the service tap to 7918 laurel bend at approximately 10:00 a.M. On 6/1/2025. A cps energy leak crew stopped that leak shortly thereafter at approximately 10:20 a.M. And made the necessary repair. During the course of the investigation of the area, cps energy crews also discovered what may have been a miniscule leak at the service tap cap at 7914 laurel bend and found a pitted riser at 7922 laurel bend. Cps energy does not believe either of these two conditions caused or contributed to this event. In fact, the soap bubble one crew member claims to have seen at the cap at 7914 laurel bend was unobservable to the rest of the crew and may have been a result of the digging. However, both were remediated out of an abundance of caution.
