Narrative
Gas leak called in by customer for single family residence at 08:12am on 3/28/25. Dte gas technician arrived at 08:45am and discovered 3 leaks at meter manifold. One leak found at regulator body screw, was tightened and leak stopped. Second leak was above shut-off valve on insulated union. Gas to residence was shut off via lockwing valve. A third leak was below the shut-off valve. At 8:50, technician went to vehicle to call for a distribution crew to cut the service. At approximately 08:57, gas ignited and 911 was called. Technician was at vehicle in driveway at time of ignition, which was verified via home security video footage. Cause of ignition is unknown. Residence caught fire and is a total loss. Service is 1-1/4" mdpe pipe operating at 57psig with maop 60psig installed in 2005. Gas was shut off via pinch-off at 11:50am. Leak checks found no gas in the ground and odorant levels adequate. Lost gas calculated to be 129 mcf. No injuries or fatalities.
