Narrative
On 3/27/2025 at 17:43 hours a pse&g technician responded to a notification of a gas ignition at 368 north 6th street (salvatore bontempo memorial park). The first responder arrived at 17:58 hours and was notified by newark fd that there was a gas ignition within a park structure and 1 person was taken to the hospital by ambulance. At 19:16 gas to the structure was shut off at the curb, and the service was cut off at the main 22:00. A leak survey was completed and did not result in any additional leaks. Further investigation revealed that a gas service was found to be leaking in the structure. Shortly before 17:20, an individual trespassed into the structure with a source of ignition on his person. At 17:20, the source of ignition ignited, leading to the explosion. The individual was released from the hospital the next morning with minor injuries.
