Narrative
The leak was originally called in by the public for odor in the air and responded to on 01/22/24. Leak assessment indicated that it was non hazardous and not migrating into sub-structures and structures. A crew was sent out to begin excavation and repair of the leak on 01/30/24. It was determined that additional resources would be needed to complete excavation and shoring. On 1/31/24 it was determined that the repair of leak would meet reporting criteria. Utilizing one valve and stopple, the leak was isolated with no customer interruption. The segment of pipe containing the leak was cut out and replaced. The removed section of the pipe was sent to a forensic metallurgical laboratory for analysis to determine the root cause. Analysis of the pipe determined the cause of the leak was due to cracking in the weld. Due to the size of the leak, the estimated volume of gas released will be difficult to determine.
