Narrative
On 10/31/24 at approximately 15:00, a measurement tech noticed a crude smell at the sour lake station, performed an area walk through and discovered crude oil on the surface above the piping in the area of tank 721. The line was shut in and isolated. The area was excavated and it was identified that the failure occurred on a section of "dead leg" piping. The leak was coming from a pinhole at the 6 o'clock position. The segment was drained and two skillet blinds were installed. 2 barrels of crude oil was released. Contractors cleaned up free product and remediated impacted soil. The cause of the accident was determined to be from internal corrosion. To prevent reoccurrence, the line segment was de-inventoried and remains isolated indefinitely. Piping modifications to the manifold are planned to permanently remove the dead leg.
