Narrative
At 09:44 cdt on 9/1/2024 a third party called the enterprise pipeline control center to report a possible vapor cloud at the shin oak cross plains pump station. The pump station was then immediately isolated and bypassed. An enterprise pipeline technician arrived on site at 11:30 cdt on 9/1/2024 and observed a small ice ball on the station discharge piping. The piping was blown down, and a crack was observed where the ice ball had been found. On 9/2/2024 at 08:15 cdt the decision was made that a section of piping would need to be cut out and replaced, resulting in repair costs exceeding $50,000. Results of metallurgical analysis indicated a fatigue crack that originated at a mechanical imperfection or anomaly at the toe of the weld joining an elbow fitting to the discharge piping. Nrc #1409698, 48-hour update #1409829.
