On august 19, 2024, at 5:59 pm cdt, a release of approximately 15 gallons of crude oil occurred at enbridge dundee station in the line 6 pumphouse. During scheduled maintenance, unit 3 was isolated and drained to assist with drain up of the station. Miscommunication between enbridge control center and the field resulted in unit 3 being returned to service before it was filled, leading to crude oil leaking from the scavenger boxes of all four units. Leak detection on until 3 triggered a shutdown of the station. Additional personnel were called to assist in the cleanup. All crude oil was contained in the pumphouse and clean up materials were properly disposed of. The cause of the release was determined to be due to miscommunication and fatigue of field personnel. An overview of the event and lessons learned will be shared at team meetings. Regional management will review cco critical information communication and equipment locks vs loto locks best practices and share findings with team.
