Narrative
On 8/19/2024, a fire was discovered by a contractor at the oneok mont belvieu storage station on the sterling iii pipeline. Oneok operators responded and extinguished the fire. Upon investigation it was determined that a pump thrust bearing failure created movement of the pump shaft which resulted in contact of the seal components. The resulting friction ignited the hydrocarbon in the interstice of the tandem seals.
