Narrative
On 8/8/24 at approximately 12:00, a company employee discovered a crude oil release at merten station. The control center was notified and immediately shutdown and blocked off the trucking lacts into the tank, the tank injection pump and the main line. Operations isolated the onsite valve and verified the leak was coming from a check valve on the 23002 8-inch mcclellan to merten line. Approximately 50 barrels of crude oil was released. Released product was cleaned up and impacted soil remediated. The investigation discovered the internal pin of the check valve dropped allowing external handle to come outside of the packing and release crude oil. The station is currently being bypassed while valve replacement is pending. A supplemental report will be submitted once the repair has been made and the station is restarted. Supplemental & final: the check valve was replaced with a spring assisted check valve and the line was returned to service.
