Narrative
On 7/28/24 at approximately 15:00, a leak was discovered on the booster pump 3111 drain line on the 20-inch colorado city wtg line. The booster pump was out of service and isolated with gate valves at the time of the leak. Colorado city wtg deliveries were stopped and the drain down line was isolated. Technicians installed skillets to further isolate dead leg discharge and suction piping to booster pump 3111. 3.07 barrels of crude oil was released. Released product was cleaned up and impacted soil remediated. An investigation determined the cause of the leak was due to internal corrosion on the drain line weld. The gate valves utilized for isolation may have leaked by allowing a small amount of product to accumulate over time. To prevent reoccurrence, booster pump 3111 has been isolated and drained from mainline piping, and the dead leg removed.
