Narrative
Company operators were notified of a possible release by a 3rd party operator in a shared right of way. At 18:00 on july 18, 2024, company personnel were able to confirm ownership of the leak and began activation of the company response plan. The pipeline was isolated, and all notifications were made at this time to local, state and federal agencies. Simultaneously, the local team began excavation and blowdown operations to allow for investigation and repair of the release. A temporary leak clamp was installed, and the line was returned to service on july 21, 2024, at 14:15. The line was cut out and replaced on january 25, 2025. After receiving the final metallurgical report, on april 7, 2025, it was determined the release was due to external corrosion caused by local environmental conditions. Extensive field testing was done at the leak site that indicates 3rd party influence due to recently installed cathodic protection systems in close proximity to the pipeline.
