On 9/6/2024 at 8:50 am cdt southern star central gas pipeline (sscgp) received a call from local ems of a gas leak on a sscgp natural gas pipeline in cass county, mo. Sscgp resources arrived on site at 9:10 am and immediately confirmed the strike on sscgp pipeline. A third-party contractor was performing excavation work for a farmer and struck the pipeline causing a puncher. No prior notification was made to one-call or sscgp. The pipeline segment was isolated by 10:19 am on 9/6/2024. Repairs were completed and the pipeline was restarted on 9/8/2024 at 2:14 pm.

Investigation Status Details
Controllers actions played no role into this incident, and there was no alarm associated with the event. Following the call to gas control, controllers began investigating neighboring meters. Controllers were able to determine a small flow change but nothing significant that would have alerted controllers. Pressure remained steady the entire time, again no alarms and no change that would have alerted controllers to an issue.
