Narrative
On august 30, 2024, at 10:49 a.M. Ct gas control was notified by the local gas distribution company that there had been a line strike, with gas blowing, near their meter station and police and fire were on their way. Gas control did not have any indication of a pressure loss on the line. A crew was immediately dispatched to determine if the potential line strike it was on an east tennessee natural gas (etng) system. Out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to isolate the line segment prior to confirming. At 11:38 a.M., the valve section was isolated, and a blowdown of the line section began shortly thereafter. An excavator was installing light pole foundations around a ball field when it struck a 22-inch, 720 psig maop line with an auger. The contractor doing the work did not have a valid one-call excavation notice for conducting the excavation.
