Narrative
The neb58801, dakota city #3 branch line, take off valve setting on the m570c, hooper to south sioux city, was struck by a nebraska state patrol vehicle on july 7, 2024, at approximately 23:30 hours. The driver was in pursuit at a high rate of speed and failed to navigate a curve striking the above grade facility. An operations communications center call was made, and operations field team members were dispatched. The vehicle was sitting approximately 5 feet from the setting. The m570c line was isolated at the homer compressor station (7.7 miles south) and at the south sioux city plant yard (0.72 miles north) and blown down to zero. In doing this, the service to dakota city #3 tbs was lost for approximately 500+residential and several industrial customers. Service to the tbs was restored at 22:30 on july 8, 2024. A 4-inch diameter pipe upstream riser tee below grade was broken. The patrol officer, driver sustained injuries, was treated at a local hospital and released to recover at home the same day. The 3rd party damage required replacing the entire valve setting above and below grade, valve and guarding.
