Narrative
On 6/22/2024 at 10:27 am cdt, a rupture and fire occurred on southern star central gas pipeline (sscgp) line xc where second-party contractors were working. The on-site contractor project foreman called local emergency response at 10:28 am then notified sscgp. There were no injuries that required inpatient hospitalization or deaths. One contractor employee received treatment on site for a minor cut. One residence approximately 900 feet from the location was evacuated as a precaution until the fire was extinguished, no damage at this residence. The line was isolated at 12:47 pm. The natural gas and equipment fire was extinguished by 4:00 pm. The non-operator property damage was equipment owned by the contractor and utility pole replacement. The result of the investigation: the excavator failed to maintain 24 inches of clearance to the side of the mainline and struck an abandoned 2 inch tap valve causing the pipeline rupture and fire.
