Narrative
On 5/13/2024 at approximately 16:15, texas gas was notified by an evangeline gas employee that texas gas's evangeline delivery meter site had sustained a lightning strike which affected one of the components, resulting in ignition. The highway adjacent to the facility was closed to through traffic on both ends and local emergency services were stationed nearby. Texas gas's operations personnel isolated the bastrop-eunice 26" no. 1 (bae 26-1) pipeline up- and down-stream of the meter facility and reduced pressure through blowdowns. Once the pipeline pressure reached 0 psig and the fire burned out, the bae 26-1 isolation valve was closed. Texas gas has installed 2 flanges and temporary piping to restore service to evangeline. A supplemental report will be submitted once permanent repairs are complete. 1/24/2025 update to submit final report. Permanent repairs include new piping and a new meter skid which were complete on 12/11/2024. Part d, question 7b (estimated cost of operator's property damage & repairs) was also updated.
