Narrative
The rochester gas and electric (rg&e) control room was notified by 911 of an explosion at 843 stone rd., in rochester, ny at 05:20 on 11/11/2024. The rg&e control room dispatched emergency response personnel in accordance with company procedures. The rg&e control room notified the nrc on 11/11/2024 at 07:52 (report #1416052) and provided the required 24-hour update to the nrc (report #1416249). Three people were reported injured because of the incident and the structure was extensively damaged by fire. The company is not aware of occupant hospitalization and is precluded from obtaining information by the hippa privacy law. Rg&e isolated the service to stop the flow of gas using the curb valve at 06:54 on 11/11/2024. Rg&e performed a leak survey in proximity to the incident in accordance with company o&m procedures and no underground leaks were identified. The initial investigation found that the meter appeared to have been tampered with, leading to the release of natural gas. This report will be updated when the results of the investigation are provided to rg&e by fire/police investigators.
