Narrative
Two passenger vehicles were reportedly street racing eastbound on w. 147th street in harvey when one of the drivers lost control of their vehicle. The vehicle crossed over the centerline divider, the oncoming lane(s) of traffic, and onto private property. The vehicle struck the gas meter outside of the universal kingdom of god house of israel temple. The majority of damage was not caused by fire (brick) but by structural damage from the collision; the building was later demolished. The vehicle and meter set both ignited, resulting in injuries to four passengers. One of the passengers was transported to the loyola burn center in maywood. The other three were transported to area hospitals. Due to the federal hipaa law that protects the privacy and security of health information, nicor gas was unable to gather any additional information on those injured, nor do we know for certain all four passengers required overnight hospitalization.
