Narrative
While conducting a leakage survey, a grade one hazardous leak was detected. Columbia discovered a bare steel line leaking within the confines of a steel casing under a railway. The ends of the steel casing were excavated and the leak migration path was broken and no longer presented a hazard. Columbia crews coordinated the repair with the railroad operator while continuously monitoring the leak until the line was replaced. The cost of repair triggered the reporting criteria as written in 49 cfr part 191.3. The pipe was replaced successfully and the leak was made safe on 03-29-24 at 19:15 hours.
