Narrative
Fayetteville fire department responded to a fire at 418 east russell street at a four lane divided highway bridge with a train bridge between the two lanes. During the course of extinguishing the fire, the fire department requested assistance from piedmont natural gas, pwc water, spectrum, ncdot, century link, csx, pwc electricity, city street maintenance and the fayetteville police department. A piedmont technician found the exposed casing on a 4" steel distribution pipeline leaking and on fire. After being dug up, the line was clamped on both sides of the bridge while the fire department continued to spray water to cool the bridge. The wooded train trestle had damage and fire was on the under side. The line was abandoned. The cause of the fire is undetermined after investigation. There were homeless persons staying under the bridge and it could not be ruled out that a campfire or other open flame was the cause.
