Narrative
On november 27th, 2023 at 1:15pm the oneok pipeline control center was contacted by an oneok contractor stating frost on the ground in the vicinity of oneok's 6" tecumseh pipeline. The pipeline section was isolated, blocked in, and nitrogen purged. A pinhole leak was found on the pipe and repairs were made by pipe replacement. The removed pipe will be sent to a lab for metallurgical analysis. Results from the analysis will be included in the supplemental report once the investigation is complete. 05/13/24 update: the metallurgical report identified that the leak occurred within a region of external corrosion. Based on examination of the deposits and metallography across the leak, the observed external corrosion occurred in an environment containing water and oxygen due to a trapped environment present beneath disbonded tape coating. Due to the condition of the coating, shielding was present that did not allow cathodic protection current to reach the pipe surface leading to the observed higher corrosion rates. Approximately 10 feet of pipe was replaced at the leak location.
