At 6:40am a station operator discovered a leaking gauge at chase station and isolated the gauge from the operation. The station operator called the control room and the area foreman, and an incident command post was activated. Jpl notified kdhe of the spill. At 8:50 am, the control room was given restart authority and the pipeline was restarted at 8:53 am. A vac truck was utilized to capture the released product. Impacted soil was moved to a remediation plot. The gauge involved in the release had been temporarily installed as part of a maintenance activity to prepare for the cut over to the new chase to mcpherson mainline segment. The plan was to remove the gauge prior to returning the segment to service, however, the underrated gauge was inadvertently left in place upon startup. An incident investigation is underway to determine the corrective actions necessary to prevent recurrence.
