Narrative
On 9/6/2023 at approximately 07:00, local operating personnel discovered oil on the ground around the sump during a routine station check. The station was down at the time of the release. Approximately 5 barrels of crude oil released. A clean-up contractor removed all released product and impacted soil. A full pressure plidco clamp was installed and the sump system was locked out. The investigation revealed a pinhole leak caused by internal corrosion in sump auxiliary piping. Original design allowed water to be trapped in the low point of piping. To prevent reoccurrence the water trap is being redesigned, sump injection being moved above grade and check valve relocated to injection point.
