Narrative
10 barrels of product was released onto the facility piping and gravel pad at the nederland terminal from a batch detection 5 hp recirculation pump. The pump draws crude oil product from the pipeline to be analyzed for density then reinjects the crude oil back into the pipeline. Small ferrous metal particles between the pump magnetic inner rotor and the barrier can scored the barrier can which caused it to fail. There was no impact to water and the pipeline was immediately shut down upon confirmed discovery of the release. Nov 29, 2023 update cost incurred was updated.
