Narrative
Operations was notified of a potential leak by a third-party operator that shares a common pipeline corridor. Operations was notified and initiated a field investigation. The potential leak was verified in the field. Operations made internal notifications. A dig was initiated, the pipe was exposed, and the leak was confirmed. Producers midstream utilized stopples to isolate and manage the amount of product lost. Upstream and downstream main line valves were also isolated during the repair to implement double block and bleed. It is our belief that the 295 barrels lost is a worst-case scenario. This value was generated using leak calculations from promax. The actual leak amount is believed to be somewhere between 16 and 295 barrels. We deduced because of the minimal contamination of the soil that was confirmed by a third-party lab analysis. The failed pipe was excavated, and the entire joint was removed. Producers midstream sent the failed pipe to an independent lab for further analysis on an expedite schedule. The new pipe was tested, installed, and the line was purged back into service upon removal of the stopples.
