Narrative
On july 31, 2023, a third party operator informed centurion pipeline, l.P. (cpl) of a leak. On july 30, 2023, the associated pipeline segment was already idled due to completion of commercial delivery for the month. A cpl employee arrived on-site at 01:11 pm. The leak was confirmed at 1:15pm was on cpl's receiver trap for 'roberts to alon' 12'' pipeline located near big springs, texas in howard county, texas. Three (3) barrels of crude oil was released and recovered during the process. Cpl remediated the contaminated soil on site. No injuries, fatalities or fires were associated with this incident. Temporary repairs were completed and plans are in place for replacement. Cpl's investigation is still pending and a supplemental report will follow upon completion of the investigation. The supplemental report will include the root cause of the accident, updates to cost, if applicable and associated p&m measure(s). Supplemental report filed on september 28, 2023: during the root cause analysis, cpl determined internal corrosion due to erosion resulted in a through-wall corrosion pit at the 6 o'clock position in valve. Supplemental report filed on october 17, 2023: with the permanent replacement, no further recurrence is anticipated. Based on the investigation, the valve type and manufacturer does not have any historical issues. This includes length of time from installation and any other capabilities. This is anticipated to be a single occurrence and no further actions are required.
