On friday june 9, 2023 at 12:00 cdst, during routine site visit an enterprise technician found a carbon steel valve grease port fitting leaking on the p87 ethylene pipeline. A courtesy call was made to trrc on june 15 at 10:15 cdst to indicate that the leak would not be repaired before exceeding 5 gallons. On june 16 at 18:00 cdst the released volume exceeded 5 gallons and on june 28 a clamp was installed to stop the leak. On july 5 it was determined that the clamp had not stopped the leak and nrc was called at 16:15 cdst in anticipation of further repair costs exceeding $50k. The valve has since been replaced. The leak on the grease port fitting was caused by external corrosion. To prevent recurrence, enterprise is replacing carbon steel packing injection fittings on similar valves with stainless steel injection fittings.
