On october 11, 2023, third-party contractor had 3 crews working in the area installing/boring fiber cable. A piedmont employee was onsite and was stationed with one of the crews, approximately 1/4 mile from the incident location. The piedmont employee was called and notified of damage to the pipeline when one of the remaining 2 crews, using a pneumatic tool, made contact with and cracked the 12 inch steel transmission line (line 204) in the median, near 439 US hwy 13, windsor nc. Contractor was hand-digging over the gas locate marks, however, the marks were not placed correctly.
