Narrative
The city of sanford water department damaged a 4-inch plastic gas main while repairing a water line near the intersection of mcneill road and hawkins avenue in sanford, nc. The gas main had been properly located and marked before the water department began its work. During the course of the water department's excavation work, the bell hole became muddy and workers lost sight of the gas line, damaging the gas main with a backhoe. Operator resources were dispatched to the scene and a repair plan initiated. Operator ultimately replaced 30 feet of pipe. The area was made safe within 5 minutes of arriving onsite and final repairs were completed approximately 14 hours after the initial report. Property damage exceeding the reporting criteria was confirmed at 4:56 p.M. The nrc was contacted at 5:00 p.M. And the ncuc was contacted at 5:12 p.M. Recorded on our ldf # 614354.
