Narrative
On november 18, 2023, an individual struck a service line while repairing a privacy fence. A local handyman was repairing a privacy fence at 7700 e. 13th street, unit 69, in wichita, kansas, which involved excavating around kansas gas service facilities. The handyman did not live at the residence and had not requested kansas gas service locate its facilities before starting the repair. While excavating with a 6" auger, the handyman struck a kansas gas service service line. Based on a review of the site, it appears the handyman attempted to repair the damaged service line. When kansas gas service technician arrived on-site as a result of a third-party leak call, they found the handyman unconscious in the excavation area. Kansas gas service's technician moved the handyman away from the excavation area and called 911. Emergency services arrived at the scene and transported the handyman to a local hospital. Kansas gas service was advised the handyman passed away approximately four days later at the hospital.
