Narrative
On 9/26/2023 socalgas responded to an excavation incident. A third-party contractor struck a 6in steel gas main with grading equipment which caused the release of natural gas. Socalgas crews controlled the flow of gas and abandoned the main as part of the permanent repairs. Upon investigation of the incident, it was discovered that the third-party contractor was performing excavation activities without a valid USA ticket. There were no injuries or fatalities as a result of this incident. This incident was reported to the cpuc once socalgas was made aware of media coverage and then reported to DOT once gas release reached 3mm.
