At 00:15 on september 27, 2023, colosimo construction, a third-party subcontractor working for pennsylvania american water installing a water main struck and damaged a 10 inch high pressure steel main with a hydraulic hammer causing a gas loss of 4.9 million cubic feet of gas. Columbia's facility locators correctly marked the section of mainline that was damaged. Because of this damage, approximately 69 buildings were evacuated, and columbia had to shut off service to 19 customers for 45 hours while repairs were made.
